The Gujarat government is aiming to inaugurate the 182-metre tall 'Statue of Unity', dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, on October 31, the birth anniversary of India's first home minister. The towering monument, being erected at Sadhu Bet, 3.32 km from the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada river at Kevadia.

Sardar Patel - who served as the first Home Minister of independent India - is credited with uniting all 562 princely states in pre-independent India to build the Republic of India. That is why it is called the 'Statue Of Unity'.

The Statue of Unity is a dedication to the Iron Man of India - Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Here's all that it took to build this statue:
  1. 2,12,000 litres of concrete.
  2. 18,000 tonnes of reinforced steel.
  3. 3,550 tonnes including cladding bronze for 6,565 panels.
  4. 250 engineers, 3,400 labourers, 3 years and 9 months of construction time.

The entire structure comprises of five zones:

  • Zone 1: This has three levels including an exhibit floor, mezzanine floor and roof. It will contain a memorial garden and museum.
  • Zone 2: This extends up to the statue's thighs.
  • Zone 3: This goes up to the viewing gallery which can hold 200 people and offer a stunning view of the Sardar Sarovar dam.
  • Zone 4: Comprises the head and shoulders of the statue not accessible to visitors.
  • The Statue of Unity will be open to the public from November 3. Tickets can be booked online at www.soutickets.in.

Contribution of farmers cannot be overlooked, says Modi

PM Modi also remembered the efforts of the farmers and locals in the area.
"The contribution of the farmers and villagers, who helped build the Statue of Unity, cannot be ignored. The state will bring prosperity to them. It will promote tourism and hence, lead to job creation and better the livelihoods," he said.
I’m not a BJP guy or Congress guy if this type of statue indicates the unity of our nation and it will be the best tourist spot in India and I hope it won’t be the scam of India.
